About Monroe, NC

The town was originally founded in 1843. It’s been a popular place for people to settle in ever since. Over the last few years, it’s been growing quite fast. It’s hardly surprising considering how scenic the town and surrounding areas are.

That’s not to say that the town isn’t proud to preserve its history. Take a look around, and you’ll find plenty of historic buildings that have been well-maintained. If you’re into history and architecture, this place is close to heaven on earth.

Check out the Waxhaw-Weddington Roads Historic District. These homes date back to the forties at the very latest. The earliest home there dates back to 1887. If you like romantic architecture, Heath House has interesting turrets and small design details that make it really special.

Don’t forget about the Piedmont Buggy Factory. This building is over a century old and adds a unique charm to another of Monroe’s historic districts.

Stallings Park is a good place to cool off in the summer. Technically the splash pads are meant for the kids. But who says kids of all ages can’t have fun with them? The park is well-maintained and perfect for a summer picnic.

Head into town in fall, and you get to experience the Aw Shucks Farm. For the rest of the year, admission is only granted on a group by group basis. During the fall, this requirement falls away. There are plenty of farm activities and animals to see and even a great old train.

It takes about 26 min (23.4 miles) to get to Monroe, NC from Charlotte Septic Contractors via I-485 Outer and Monroe Expy/U.S. 74 Bypass Rd.
