About Matthews, NC
The town was originally referred to as Stumptown. Why? Because as plantation owners moved in, they needed to clear the land. The fields cleared for cotton were dotted with the stumps of trees. And the locals started using the name Stumptown.
If you can make it here, Labor Day weekend is a good time to come. However, you will need to book well in advance. But if you can make it, you’ll be here for the Matthews Alive Festival. This celebration combines the charm of a country carnival and the great taste of locally brewed craft beer.
There are arts and crafts stalls, live music, rides, and the town parade as well. The festival is held to raise funds for charity. Unfortunately, no dogs are allowed.
But Fido doesn’t have to worry – dogs have their own Pawsitively Matthews event. The event is a lot of fun and gives you a chance to show off your gorgeous doggie.
If you can’t make it over the Labor Day weekend, try and go in the summer. Make it on the second or fourth Friday, and you’ll be able to enjoy Food Truck Fridays. You’ll get another shot at those craft beers, great food, and congenial company.
